I finally got on this app because of age-related memory gaps. If I can't remember what I saw, this damn thing will.

This director is nimble at Polanskoid subjective scene-making and sequence weaving but forgot the Polanski cardinal rule: Paranoia is often hilarious. GET OUT, to which this movie has been compared for its use of racist microaggressions as unsettling omens, never forgot the Polanski Rule.

    Regina Hall is amazing.

    The Batman

    ★★½

This movie looks like Frank Miller's BATMAN YEAR ONE (the colors, shadows and splash-page flourishes) but moves like SEVEN, minus that film's surefire narrative propellant (seven days, seven deadly sins, seven murders). Man, I'm loving how this app permits me to be the armchair mogul/film asshole I truly am:

BR2049 was doomed to be merely impressive the moment Roger Deakins chose not to shoot it with anamorphic lenses.

It was the one simple choice he could have made to tie this film to its predecessor and lend it similar subliminal gravitas and mystery. But naw, he hates anamorphic lenses--even though every frame of this Scope ratio film is composed and lit in…
