Not subtle. If you want subtlety or nuance, this isn’t the movie for you. It hits you over the head with the imagery and themes. And for some reason, many allusions to The Shining and 2001 A Space Odyssey, not to mention other horror genre classics like Carrie and The Thing. Basically, this movie is ALL OVER THE PLACE.
