  The Host 2006

  Only the third Bong Joon-ho film I’ve seen to date (Parasite & Snowpiercer being the others) and it is clear that the praise of his directing is absolutely warranted.

  This heartfelt and smart monster movie makes for one of the more compelling in the genre despite its underwhelming special effects.   All Quiet on the Western Front 2022

  Not for the faint of heart, AQOTWF, is a horrifying and brutal depiction of the final days of WWI met with incredible cinematography, a haunting score, and poignant storytelling around Paul and a small group of German soldiers on the front lines.

  A long, hard watch that feels important and has something to say which is more than I can say about many films. The high acclaim this movie has received is warranted. This watch will stick with me, and I hope I do not have to rewatch anytime soon lest I forget the insanity and devastation this type of war brings.
