As someone who went to music school and burned the hell out, this movie made me feel many emotions, most negative. This is one of the purest concentrations of the pointless anguish music students go through and there are really assholes like Fletcher out there. These kinds of people really do make you quit music altogether. They shit on your passion. Happened with me. I loved Whiplash and it made me so angry I nearly clawed through the arm of my couch. Masterpiece.

Very well done. I was blown away by the technical aspects of the film - the monkey is beautifully expressive and the flashier shots were pulled off masterfully. For me the monkey became the most distracting at the film’s most intimate and touching moments. I understand the significance of the decision to make Robbie a monkey, but I guess I just never fully got behind it. I will say that as far as monkey-led music biopics go, this is probably the best you can do.

You don’t need to know anything about baseball to enjoy this absurdist masterpiece. All you need to know is Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire are baseball players who love taking steroids. It’s only a half hour long - just take a little time to sit down and experience this. It’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever watched and it’s got one of the catchiest soundtracks I’ve ever heard. My only complaint is that I want more.
