The Last Picture Show 1971
After god knows how long, I finally checked off the very first film I ever added to my watchlist. What starts off as a pretty unassuming tale about a couple of kids ambling about this quiet, sand-swept town, eventually turns into one of the most surprisingly devastating films I’ve ever seen. I tend to say a lot, perhaps I’m just too soft but damn, this one really just hits you with a one little heartbreak after another. This movie was stunning from beginning to end.

Anora 2024
Loud, abrasive, raw, I felt very on edge for the majority of this but that was mostly due to having to quickly turn the volume down every 5 minutes cuz I have paper thin walls in my room. Thinking about it after the fact tho, there are some truly fantastic performances in here, in particular Mikey Maddison, And it’s just so exuberant and full of character. I’d love to rewatch this at some point tho to get a proper feel for it and not at 2 am when everyone is trying to sleep.

Inside Llewyn Davis 2013
This film is so depressing yet simultaneously uplifting. Once again the Coen brothers have left me feeling this weird combination of melancholy and placidity.
To be honest what resonated most with me is how even though life has given Llewyn a nearly perpetual shit-kicking, he would rather stick to his guns than give in to philosophical suicide. After sitting in silence as the credits rolled, I was feeling a bit short changed (in typical Coen bros fashion) but I finished…
