Bit of a slow burn. Middle act should have done a better job of showing a budding romance between the leads, instead there’s a ‘I love you’ moment that feels unbelievable. Picks up in the last act, though. Also doesn’t have a satisfying ending (quite typical for the period).

Slightly surreal due to the stark post-art deco interior designs. A first half that builds some tension and keeps your attention, which pays off handsomely in an enjoyable and fast 2nd half.

A very brooding noir about what notoriety does to a person’s psychology and how blackmail is a very dark path that often leads to unintended consequences.

Interesting to revisit after many years,  especially having watched many more Hitchcock films in the intervening time. Charade, which is not directed by Hitchcock, is very much a "Hitchcock-shaped" film in terms of the plot and structure. But the pacing, the performances, and the cinematography feel not quite up to his standards (I think he would have made better use of Paris as a filming location, too).

That being said, it’s enjoyable thanks to the fantastic charisma and chemistry of Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, a decent atmosphere of intrigue through the runtime, and a few legitimately suspenseful moments.
