A searing, masterful indictment of the way we consume and dismiss young women. The trailers set this up as a silly romp with slapstick hijinx, but by the end of the film Anora is shaking us by the shoulders saying, “don’t you get it? This was trauma.”

Ani is charming, hopeful, sharp witted and strategic. Everything we want a powerful heroine to be. But unlike so many pictures with such strong female leads, this is not a fantasy film where…

Kind of just not a movie really? Kept waiting for literally anything to happen.

I guess if you can’t write one 3-dimensional character just slap together three 1-dimensional characters.

It’s giving broke. It’s giving ‘couldn’t afford writers.’ It’s giving ‘we need a product placement check, how do we cram as many logos into a movie as possible? Tennis? Perfect. Plot? Whatever. People will see it if Zendaya is in her undies. Also ask Zendaya if she can spot us the budget.’

That said, Zendaya is really bringing the acting chops to these modeling gigs she keeps getting. Can’t wait to see her play a character.
