nightbreed is a famous example of creative control being taken over by the studio with a bad edit produced that was blamed for it's high profile failure, other examples being david lynch's dune and louis ck's pootie tang, etc.
the nightbreed director's cut restored 40 minutes of original footage and added a new score, it's the only legitimate version of the movie and the one you want to see. joe bob briggs calls nightbreed the best monster movie ever made, which sounds accurate to me.
