If Beale Street Could Talk 2018
i don’t often write formal (or rather, serious) reviews on this app, but i have to for this movie. watched in first in February and had the pleasure to rewatch it again after a visit to Harlem and a walk down the streets where they filmed. this is one of the most beautiful, heart wrenching, and raw films — down to the score. no scene in the movie is useless. and the writing was so tragically grounding that it felt like i was right there with them and simultaneously wanting to tell the people i loved that i love them.

In This Corner of the World 2016
i cannot put into words the impact this movie had on me. the animation and the pace and the storytelling were absolutely flawless. honestly this is one of those movies that can really ground you and make you think about the impact of your choices on others. i shed tears at movies fairly easily, but this movie made me audibly cry.
most of all, though, i walked away from this movie more than grateful for the people i've met in my corner of the world. i hope you watch this and feel the same way, too.
