I knew Wong Jing made his early movies for Shaw Brothers, but I thought they were all comedies. Mercenaries from Hong Kong is more of a Namsploitation film with a bunch of tough guy actors -- but it's still a Wong Jing film, and his most recognizable directorial trait of wild swings in tone from scene to scene and even within a scene is already well developed.

I haven't been the biggest fan of the John Wick movies, but this one does take the gun fu and environment fu to an entertaining extreme. Donnie Yen is great as blind assassin Caine (get it? GET IT?!!!), and I do like the early scene that shows his character using a specialized technique to be blind gunman, though the rest of the movie just says, eh, screw it, he aims by magic or something.
