  Yeah we know Salieri and Mozart's relationship likely wasn't confrontation in real life, but everyone referencing the movie describes it as a "rivalry" between the two, but that's not at all how i saw it. I saw it more as Salieri's reverence for Mozart, how it took the form of envy and drove him to obsess over tearing Mozart down, as if he realized from the start that he could never best him. Regardless of how others viewed their music, Salieri was always looking up towards Mozart even when everyone else was looking down on him
