Man, I love Dylan. Cool that Mangold, after cementing and casting in bronze the biopic trope with Walk the Line, managed to veer off the played out path, crack the mold a bit, and essentially tell one as a diegetic musical. Bummer that Ed Norton is about to get robbed at the Oscars though.
Early contender for my top 5 films of the year. It’s got great banter and performances by Sathya Sridharan and Anastasia Olowin. The Neo-Realist/French New Wave style should mix like oil and vinegar with its charming rom-com tone but it’s a fine tuned soufflé that doesn’t deflate. Many of the films it references are readily apparent but it manages to find its own voice among them and subvert expectations in such a delightful way.
