The phrase "I have never seen anything like that before" is probably overused but absolutely applicable here. It is hard to describe this barmy film which mixes genre elements of comedy, western, crime horror, musical and sport movies. Making it even stranger is the sport they have gone with is Snooker (which, granted, was phenomenally popular in the UK in the 80s). Not only that adding to the oddness is the fact that it is all filmed on studio sets…

Probably the most eye violence I have ever seen outside a Fulci movie! The movie is a bit odd as it is kind of half way between being a Scream movie and being Rob Zombie's Halloween and never quite seems to know how fun it wants to be. I think I love this more every-time I watch it (I think this was my 5th or 6th time seeing it). De Niro has never been this funny before or since and his chemistry with Grodin is off the charts great. That alone would make it a great film but then you throw in a zinger filled script, some excellent action and firecracker supporting turns from Yaphet Kotto, Dennis Farina and Joey Pants and you get one of the all time best Buddy action comedy flicks.

Probably the peak "America, Fuck Yeah" movie (impressive given the stiff 80s competition). Also, one of the most 80s movies to ever 80s. Mileage on this will vary but if you can look past the dopey dialogue, paper thin characters and cartoonish jingoism it is actually a pretty fun action flick. If you are looking for a worthy successor for First Blood forget it but if you are just want to stick something mindless on where everything explodes (and I mean EVERYTHING) for 90 minutes then you can't go far wrong.
