The chemistry between the leads is nice but as a whole it is a bit too twee and saccharine a movie to be enjoyable.

Wonderful start to a meandering tale of a highly troubled screen writer and his brother, played pretty darn well by Nicolas Cage who I don’t often have immense praise for performance-wise. I feel this meandering lasts just a bit too long however, and the smart meta turn the whole movie takes feels either not subtle or bombastic enough note-wise. It reminds me slightly of one of my favourite movies - seven psychopaths, but an inferior version of such a narrative…

Incredibly stylish and evocative shots throughout, complimented with great chemistry between the two leads. At the same time their was a lack of resonance for me regarding the depth of the supposed romance, and it was hard to escape the feeling there were subtle elements of the story that were lost in translation.
Jumping between police action and quieter moments, it felt like there was a dissonance between the over the top nature of the crime fighting, and the sensitivity…
