Watching this for the first time in 2022 is rather refreshing. It's script is insultingly simplistic and unapologetic about it. It's not dumb, it's cynical. From the race announcer explaining racing info to the audience to Stallone's love interest introduced as being a journalist doing a report on "male dominance in sports" and then doing nothing beyond being there for a love interest.
