Learning to watch and see
No ratings, likes mean nothing
The premise of the story can seem almost banal, but it is delivered in such a minimalistic and tender way that makes it times more electrical and suspenseful.
Nana pours vibrant Indonesian culture on the viewer and sets the story in such locations that make it look like a different planet
Every scene with Nana smoking is state of the art, especially the one with two women on the porch
Seen the premier at Berlinale Palace and had a pleasure to see the director with her team and show them my appreciation of their work
Holy shit this was dark. But also kinda exploitative dark, so I find it impossible to empathize with anyone in the whole movie.
Pacing stood out quite a bit to me. I was much more critical of the first half which felt like a sad song of a fuck you rich person. This maybe even made the ending sequence hit harder.
Incredible cinematography portraying fleeting moments of magical childhood, where unbelievable is possible and normal.
The mundane details of the family’s life were always on periphery of what was shown, while still playing a huge role in how the movie is perceived - we see the nomadic life, economic state and inflation as normally as it would seem to a child. The child who is losing her first teeth and speaking to animals.
Saving the best for last
Return to Dust is a masterclass in subtlety. Nothing in this story is huge, but it is still grand in a way.
I can't say much other than that this movie moved me, I loved main characters (including the donkey and hens), and I was immersed into the story heavily.

Trigonometry is a movie about the multitude of angles of what people can feel toward each other, and yes, the multiple dimensions of love. I was happy to see that Athina Tsangari is in charge of the project, which it is a mini-series, everything seemed great.
