Watching this a week after seeing Sing Sing is interesting, both relocate Shakespeare in an unexpected place.  Both are about the struggle to believe in yourself and what you are doing despite all the evidence that you are just wasting time. A very prescient metaphysical angst.

This is a very Bell Jar coded movie in the sense of it being Chloe Sevigny’s character sort of coming of age as an adult who is simultaneously very intelligent and thoughtful but also kind of making mistakes and figuring out what she likes.

Also you should probably know up front that this is mumblecore in the tradition of Kicking and Screaming or Walking and Talking.  Very stilted dialogue but it’s worth it because it’s funny and insightful and memorable.…

What a beautiful film.  Colman Domingo is an actor’s actor, and the rest of the cast is enthralling.  The character Mike Mike has this monologue at one point that is just like simultaneously transcendent and almost unintelligible.  Shot on film also, looks incredible.

Honestly a pretty chill watch, the witches are cool.  Dennis Hopper drives around LA a lot.  Some very Lynchian moments.  Eric Bogosian does a Bogosian rant at one point.  I heard it was supposed to be sort of a sequel to Cast a Deadly Spell but it’s pretty different, weirder and more atmospheric feeling.
