I really wanted to like this movie as it had the potential to be great. However after Mickey was asked for the fifth time, “what’s it like to die”, I realised this movie is just rinse and repeat. Similar to The Edge of Tomorrow, this movie had such a cool premise but lacked the execution. Not even Robert Paterson and Steven Yeun could save this film.
The concept of an expendable and the morality of a duplicate person is brilliant…
The Monkey is a movie that I enjoyed. Whether I am a hypocrite for liking this movie considering I have said many times how I dislike horror movies going for comedy, but this monkey was cute, evil and everywhere! The acting wasn’t great for most parts, and I think at some points the deaths were deliberately over the top. I enjoyed it, I had a good time. Sue me. 7/10
Robert Eggers does it again. This movie was really good. This was a horror movie that payed homage to the classic horror movies of yesteryear. The cold open was in black and white and really set the tone for the movie, it is a scary ride.
This movie is your traditional horror movie of the 2020s where you have 10 jump scares that are predictable. This movie from start to finish has a tense atmosphere, some scary and creepy moments…
Nothing bad can be said for the actors in this film. Everyone did a stellar job. However the movie is just super weird. I can see why some people enjoyed this movie. Emma Stone was superb. Willem Dafoe was amazing. I wouldn’t reccomend this to others purely on the basis that I have no interest in rewatching and or thinking of this movie again. Disturbing in places although I know that is the point. And weirdly incredibly funny with some of the weird stuff being said really coming across as funny. 5/10.
