My first John Sayles, and I wanna see everything he’s made. Started Passion Fish a few months ago but didn’t get to finish it — but loved what I saw. I love the realness and the emotion that he breathes into his characters. I loved Lone Star. The transitions and camerawork really stood out for me. Not surprised to find out he was an author, felt like a great novel.
It should be talked about with other Best of the 90s movies. Indie god.
I discovered Spalding Gray 6 or 7 years ago. I don’t remember what Wikipedia wormhole I found him down but after I watched Waiting for Cambodia on YouTube I was hooked.
He’s endlessly fascinating to me and feels like a lost American folk hero. Love the weird secret club of fans who appreciate his peculiarity and mundanity (like Bill Hader and Documentary Now team). This was great with the best ending.
Wow wow I loved this movie. Ideal to wind down to. Relaxing, cozy, minimalist. The father and son’s conversation was a perfect fit over the footage - which was so visually pleasing. The snow and the mud and the bloodied jersey with the bright neon ball were all wonderful visuals. And the shots of the packed crowd all nestled under their snowy umbrellas kept making me laugh. Great, unique documentary. A new favorite.
