  Not your parents’ mobster flick, it’s your grandparents’. This is a gangster movie like no other. No other mobster flick like this deals with aging in this profound, effective, and mature way, except for maybe The Godfather Part 2. Each act of this film improves upon the last. This is an evolved Scorsese who isn’t just continuing his greatness; he’s at the peak of it.

  Update 12/11/23: The Irishman is to Martin Scorsese as Unforgiven is to Clint Eastwood.

  These themes of class, structure, relative perception, and more are oftentimes so blatant, but at other times they are so subtle. All are equally as potent and powerful. I need to process this film.
