One of the most perfect films ever made. From how I see it, the placing of these documentary-like, historical travelogue segments alongside the domestic drama brings the couple face to face with not only death, but time itself. Life is only clearly seen in the moment if one is to view it from a distance, which is only achievable after the moment is long gone. The preserved corpses of the victims of Pompeii confront, almost mock the couple's ever-present attitude…

Every Robert Mitchum line reading in this is either the coolest thing I’ve ever heard or the most devastating

I’m surprised I haven’t seen many people talk about Sydney Sweeney’s performance in this, because it’s like…really good? I thought her physical comedy was especially great.

Anyway, this is the second rom-com I’ve watched in the past month and I feel like I irrationally liked both for some reason. I didn't love this film as my pre-existing issues with Villeneuve still exist, those being he isn't quite as good as he thinks he is with dramatic moments as well as a tendency for his frames to be aesthetically pleasing but empty at times. I will give him credit, however, as it does showcase his biggest talents throughout. The world is very detailed and nice to sit with during the runtime, and I think he did a great job with…

So much to take in and think about so my thoughts aren't quite coherent, but genuinely feels like Marty taking you inside some of the most evil and toxic parts of American history, turning the focus on the audience and interrogating our sympathies and perceptions as film viewers.
