    A heartbreaking true story told with next-level compassion and sensibility. The chemistry between the characters, especially the Paivas, is off the charts. Fernanda Torres basically played at least 3 different roles in a magnetic performance. An absolute lynchpin that elevated everyone else. Not my personal favorite among the international features, but I’m glad this important film got the buzz it deserved.

    A courageous cinematic tour de force by Rasoulof, The Seed of the Sacred Fig was made with clear intent and conviction in every scene. For those saying keep politics out of film, watch this and try again. Wonderful performance collectively, though the mother stood out to me the most. Her being the ever-torn, ever-conflicted individual is a clever personification of a country perpetually wrestling with its identity.

    Locked eyes with Bong Joon-ho right before getting to my seat. If that’s not a good omen, idk what is.

    I’m glad I was able to look past the frosty early reception towards Bardo. Anyone who knows Iñarritu’s arrogance and stubbornness should’ve seen it coming. I’m personally not his biggest fan, but in this case, his painstaking singularity is what made this behemoth of a film possible.

    Did he say it’s autobiographical? No. Was he telling the truth? Who knows.…
