Shaun of the Dead 2004
A fun film, but on rewatch I realized that I'd remembered all the good scenes and funny lines, but not the kinda mid scenes in between.

The Importance of Being Earnest 2002
Having recently seen the (superior) National Theater Live version of the play, I wanted to go back and rewatch this adaptation from 2002. The acting by the leads is fine -- Everett is weaker than the others, while Dench is delightful. The real problem is that everything that sparkles in this is dialog from Wilde's original script and everything the director adds for this adaptation (gratuitous scene changes to make it more filmic, a musical bit, some daydream sequences, etc.) is either misplaced or doesn't add anything. Just see the National Theater Live version with Ncuti Gatwa if you can.

National Theatre Live: The Importance of Being Earnest 2025
A wonderful staging of the classic play with some fun modern touches

Kung Fu Panda 4 2024
Ugh. I adore the first two Kung Fu Panda films. I found the third one to be weaker, but an acceptable wrap up to the story. This film undercuts everything that made the first films enjoyable, drops all of the interesting side-characters, and makes so sense. It's an egregious example of extending an IP just to make money. Don't watch this.
