the subtitles were absolutely atrocious on prime. do not pay money for this there.
fun soviet flick tho. i always say that the sci-fi genre needs to put more emphasis on the fiction than the science. street performers caged up in the sahara? you had me at ‘prime’!

like its architecture and forward-thinking creator, The Brutalist is monumental and monolithic. it portrays the American dream as a concept held together by the pressure between those who brace against it for hope and those who sit on it to justify their malfeasance. that dichotomy is starkly embodied by the amazing performances of Adrien Brody and Guy Pearce, their relationship becoming frighteningly toxic with each passing minute together. the score imbues the film with its epic power, playing into the motifs of the film by contrasting more sinister sounds that are underscored by the triumph of the orchestra.
