The Brutalist 2024
I think the reason that brutalism is so many people’s entry to appreciating architecture is because you see a brutalist building and go, “why does it look like that tho’?” And then you learn that there is a very clear and legible reason why. Brutalism says something with its starkness. I feel like this movie is the inverse of that. It is, of course, visually magnificent - a real “every frame a painting” type of movie. I am just not sure it really has anything to say about anything.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go smoke a cigarette.

Nosferatu 2024
So beautiful, so well acted, so fundamentally my-kind-of-shit, and still in the end I just didn’t care for it. When it was a nightmare, or a tragedy, it was so good. But most of the time the script was too providential. The characters seemed to make choices and take actions for no other reason than because it’s what Robert Eggers ordered them to do.
