Thank you Tim for staying true to the original. I loved the nuggets relating to the original - fonts, waiting room, song at funeral, town model, and getting the family to “force” dance. O’Hara is a legend, Ryder is a beautiful awkward friend, Keaton is a master of character and Ortega the perfect choice to carry “BeetleJuice” to a new generation. It was great fun.
I never enjoyed feeling “uncomfortable” with the passage of time like this before. The silence and time to process pushed the limit and was totally successful. The actors used the spaces to emote relatable emotional truths that we have all journeyed through. Body language matters. A couple times I voiced “ah that’s it so true” in my head. Well, I am glad I watched it but it didn’t quite have the same charm as the original. The connection between the two worlds was interesting and it was great to see all character contribute to “saving the day”. Amy did a great job and the transformation to evil step-mother was done well. The various characters were fun and engaging. I liked that there was growth for many of the characters.
Ok. I seriously loved it. I loved the comedy, I loved the action, I loved the karaoke. I appreciate that there was good and bad in everyone and the battle of knowing who you are what you choose (good or bad) is what is important. I love the truth that even bad guys can love. It’s bad and good decisions. Anyway, I cheered and clapped. Go good.
