On one hand, it begins with such a beautiful opening scene—five girls coming back from school, their long, beautiful hair flowing as they play with boys in the water, steal apples from a garden, laugh, scream—so wild, rebellious, and free, as if they embody Eve before her exile from Eden, untouched by the weight of patriarchy.
