    This was a pretty standard, but heartfelt sports movie.

    I got to see this in theaters at Village East by Angelika as part of their pseudo Gene Hackman retrospective in honor of his recent passing. He just has so much ferocity and warmth as Coach Norm. The late great Dennis Hopper is solid here as well.

    Pressing play on a movie that I’ve never seen before that is widely regarded as an iconic classic is always an oddly intimidating experience.

    From Citizen Kane and Jaws to The Godfather or Apocalypse Now, these landmark films regarded as all-time greats have a legendary level of hype and prestige surrounding them to the point that it’s basically impossible to just go into them like any other film you would want to watch.
