God, I've never felt so uneasy watching a film. Red will never be as jarring as a color as it appears in this film. The long, extended shots are so unsettling that I had chills all over me for the entire two hours of the film. Georges and Majid are obviously allegories of France and Algeria, and Majid's son and Georges's son's interactions at the end of the film are trying to tell us something about the current France-Algeria relationship that I need to do more research on.
