  I cringed at every idea Guadagnino came up with to make this movie. I can't stand it when good ideas are wasted just to put on a show. But sometimes I still want to watch circus shows like this. It was fun 👾

  As Julio goes to Manila to search for his beloved Ligaya, we also follow what Julio, a young countryman, is doing to hold on to this big, brutal, and unfair city. It is great that the film creates a construct to observe a city and its society, and moreover to create it through a love story. This was my favorite point in the movie. In addition, while witnessing the society or the city at those times, the film is neither too didactic nor exaggerated melodramatic.

  The first half of the film was too focused on creating the atmosphere, just to make you think that "the story is interesting". But it just makes it boring and hard to keep up with. There could be more things like how other people gets it or maybe how she decided to leave everything behind, especially when she has these kind of high standards of living. Because the story itself can't keep the rythm alone.
