Don’t have much to say, but I can see both sides of the coin on why Eggers is a cinephile favorite but simultaneously not going to win Oscars. He has a distinct vision that gets translated perfectly, but not every shot means something, nor is it “technically” perfect. Very inventive and I’m sure we’ll be talking about him in 20 years.
700 people attending an overnight showing in 70mm. Not an original thought but it kinda did seem like we forgot how to do this.
I was worried Brady Corbet would keep a similar amount of “film-school” vibes as Vox Lux, but he clearly locked in. There are a few montages that reflect those ideas, but they’re pretty short and toned down. The visuals are just unbelievable, one of the best looking films of recent memory. I’d love to compare them…
