The Third Man 1949

Orson Welles’ acting saves this movie from the score being lower. It kind of sucks how Valli’s sole purpose as a character was to present Cotten with a moral dilemma. There was so much potential for her character development, especially with the backdrop of her conundrum. Welles’ shysterism can be cartoonishly evil in a way that reads as incredible— and not in the good way. The moral absolutism of the film makes it pretty one-dimensional. That’s mainstream 40s cinema for you I guess.
