    Scrooge: A Christmas Carol

I get that this story sometimes needs revisiting and updating but, where other adaptations have been largely faithful to the original text, this recent version takes far too many liberties.

The songs, as good as they are, seem shoehorned into the action. Luke Evans is excellent as always but his obviously young voice doesn't fit the old face of Scrooge. Some of the supporting voice cast also feel misplaced.

But, and this is the biggest gripe, there was no dog in A Christmas Carol!

It passed some time and reminds me of the many, many more excellent versions of this beloved story that exist.

    Humbug!

You know what, this isn't as bad as it seems. Sure, they could have got a real dog but it wouldn't have worked quite as well. This film also could have done without the Dan Stevens character and his side story.
What I did like was Harrison Ford getting to play a grizzled, old loner that reminded me of Bogart in his later roles.
Call of the Wild isn't ground breaking or totally original but I found it sweet and rather more enjoyable than I expected.

Not only one of my all time favourite films but also one of my absolute favourite adaptations of A Christmas Carol.

Albert Finney (and the whole cast) is spectacular as is the fantastic musical numbers. Pure joy from start to finish.
