    What I love about this the most — the film does a good job of portraying the everyday humiliations and dangers colored people faced in the Jim Crow South. It uses the "Green Book," a real-life guide for African American travelers, to highlight the constant need for navigation and safety measures colored people had to take during that time.

    The film plays like a twisted chess match.
    DiCaprio's portrayal of Costigan is a masterclass in simmering tension. He's constantly walking a tightrope, one wrong word away from a bullet to the brain. Nicholson, on the other hand, is pure unhinged brilliance. I think his line that I mostly find menacing was, "We all gotta make a choice. You don't get to choose not to choose..." The beauty of The Departed lies in its ambiguity.
