Between the marketing giving away the “twist” and the prolonged first act accompanied with the “witty” banter between wholly unlikable characters there was little to find redeeming in this. Which is unfortunate because the cast had real potential and the setting of a big empty resident evil like mansion was fun. The movie feels dated on release.

I think one of my problems with this movie was how much the first half of the movie felt almost exactly the same as the first movie. It felt overly sentimental and very predictable. I do feel like the second half of the movie subverts those expectations but it feels like a little too late and maybe somewhat rushed. On the other hand I think the casting was fantastic especially Denzel Washington; his character was one of the more entertaining…
