The Art of Self-Defense 2019
Balanced with darkly hilarious and disturbingly grounded in toxic masculinity, I was very uncomfortable with this movie while being entertained. Boy would it be nice if the character arc of Casey were more often the end point for real victims of the toxic masculinity to violent predator pipeline.

I’m a sucker for a coming of age story. Add in the fact that this one subverts a lot of the typical plot points and cliches and you’ve got a fun movie. The tribulations of friendship and being an outcast are well on display. The solutions the movie presents are more truly healthy than most films present.
