You think countries run the fucking world? Go back to fucking Sunday school. It's 'God save our multinational' they're singing these days.

This isn't going to be about the movie. I just finished reading the book a few days ago and decided to rewatch the movie. When I first saw this, a couple of years after its release, I hadn't even heard the name John le Carré. I saw it as a fan of Fiennes and Weisz and because I…

Top 5 American directors of all time for me. Maybe in my personal top 3.

Undoubtedly an amalgamation of the brothers' interests; noir and goofy comedy. Blood Simple meets Raising Arizona. Fargo but more goofy, less bloody. It's delightful. Jam packed with intricate jokes and details, low comedy meets Raymond Chandler. John Goodman's best role, perfect musical choices, Julianne Moore and Jeff Bridges completely shedding their Serious Actor (TM) personas.

I still love the theory that this is a sneaky Cutter's Way sequel.

I can't believe how bad this is. I am stupefied, petrified, mortified by how much it treats its audience like an idiot. It's schmaltz smeared across every inch of the screen. It's so saccharine and treacly, I got a toothache.

I read the book back when it came out. It was hard to avoid it. It was an instant success, winning the Pulitzer eventually. I remember really enjoying it. A worthy addition in a very saturated and storied genre: historical…
