What can I say? Sam Raimi's just makes loveable movies. He's having a ton of fun and so are we. The movie has enough madness, eye-popping visuals and style to keep me a reluctant fan of the MCU, for now. Though creative constraints still clearly hamper it as a film. Wanda's arc was surprisingly engaging, and Elizabeth Olsen gives a committed and emotional performance.
This is one for the film bros. I'm trying, but not quite there yet. I felt dumb at times during this, but I still took a lot from the movie. The environments are jaw-dropping and shot spectacularly. It's a brutal meditation on the destructive role of masculinity with a killer twist that devastates and has you thinking about it for days.
I don't know how, but this was somehow reasonably fun? Sonic is competently acted and performed by a well-known, solid comedian/actor who sounds like they actually want to be there. I think it's hilarious he's a dudebro nerd firing off pop-culture references at lightening speed. Because it's self-aware, it doesn't come off too tacky or overbearing. Actual story is bland but serviceable, attempts at wholesomeness do not come off. Jim Carrey is having a blast though.
MCU's Spider-Man finally grows up, with a little help from his big brothers. A celebration of a 20+ year legacy in the best way. Pleasantly surprised they brought old favourites back and built a meaningful and emotional arc around it. That means so much more than them simply appearing for a cynical cameo.
