“I ate him right the fuck up.”

With gory scenes that instruct you to turn away juxtaposed with the tenderness between the leading characters, this film makes the perfect hybrid. Beautiful midwestern landscapes that are desolate yet freeing, fit perfectly as the backdrop to this private story. As a passive watch this film is great but also offers up potential for other readings, potentially a queer reading, especially in relation to the directors other work.

Losing your sense of self, has become central to my own female experience. It’s easier to blame it on a boyfriend and move on to the next, without really confronting who you think you are. surface-level feminist ideas packaged with Mattel’s logo on the box.

Like a barbie doll, this film was fun to look at but felt hollow on the inside. I’m glad feminism was accessible through this film but it had more potential to go deeper. I could see that it was trying to, but couldn’t quite execute it.

The film felt like it was trying to address potential criticisms as it played out.

Wouldn’t recommend if you’re a marxist feminist but it is enjoyable, nevertheless.
