A fantastically faithful family film adaptation of a great book that holds up to even this day. Directed by Andrew Davis who mostly did action/thrillers before this complete genre change to a more family friendly film is really well done outside the terrible slow-mo choice they did. The Substance directed by Coralie Fargeat was an interesting film who's premise is one that piques my interest, however the fact it was a body horror type film, it would not normally be something I go out of my way to watch. A 2025 remake of an Universal Monster classic by Leigh Whannell was overall pretty disappointing in its latest iteration. It's story was kept small in scope which was fine, but the message of turning into a monster like his father and continuing the cycle of abuse that he was running from just felt undercooked.
