The Seed of the Sacred Fig 2024
Good film that had the potential to be great, but nonetheless extremely urgent piece. It is one of those cases, where the role of cinema is rethought. not all films are meant to be artistic or entertaining pieces, cinema is political. There are times where the story falls short but that fact that the whole filming was done in secret and that the director had to exile the country are both impressive testaments to the whole production.
It is a great showcase and metaphor for Iran’s police regime. very emotional and devastating. A great reminder of the role and power of cinema.

The Sheik and I 2012
This left me frustrated and confused. While i love Caveh’s blunt satire and the structure of the story and the film is truly subversive as they wanted. It is also very obnoxious, Caveh and the crew seemingly have no care about anyone involved. They proceed to place multiple people in danger, are completely ignorant of the sociopolitical situation (the Arab spring only crosses their minds as a very late afterthought) and very insufferable around the whole of Sharjah.
