  A bit thin on story and character tbh but the practical effects and the action are more than enough to put this right up there as an all time classic. Not much to say that won’t have already been said about it considering I’m 40 years late to the party

  It’s infuriating to see so many people criticise this as “racist” because of the way it represents Japan and Japanese people, when the entire fucking point of the film is that it’s about two people completely lost and isolated in Japan. There’s countless shots of the characters being literally alone in the frame, countless shots of Japan being an incomprehensibly huge mega city towering over these characters. Even the soundtrack is predominantly popular English language songs to prove their longing…
