Chris Rock: Selective Outrage 2023
The long awaited response to the slap! Some people said when it happened some people wondered why he didn’t fight back but this is how he fought. The right way. He coins the term “Selective Rage” which is an incredible social commentary because it calls out the fact that people only attack people’s virtue when it’s convenient for them, and used as an opportunity to be seen as more righteous. He fumbled some jokes and it wasn’t the funniest stand up I’ve seen however it was a good medium for communicating important ideas.

People don’t understand irony. A lot of people like Fight Club, Joker, Taxi Driver, or American Psycho because they admire the characters and even more hate those movies because they hate those people. However fight club is a movie that tells you how not to live and how someone you can become empathetic to or even relate to can get swept up in a path of darkness. Great a reminding us that everyone has a second personality that we have to fight in us and that the average person has a capacity for evil.
