Star Wars is a franchise with lots of ups and downs (in my opinion more of the latter).
This is the third best in the franchise behind Empire and Star Wars.
Revisionists changing their mind on this film and the fact that episodes 8&9 being what they were do not take away from the nostalgia fest that is the Force Awakens.
Fan service in the best way possible and was a great spring board for the trilogy that was sadly not taken advantage of.

Action packed excellence.
Not many franchises are as synonymous with their genres as this one. It just fits. Star Wars in Sci-fi, Lord of the Rings in fantasy and Mission Impossible in action.
After stellar fourth and fifth entries, this movie had a lot to live up to, normally when a series gets this far in it can become bland and not serve a purpose to the overall narrative. Yet it becomes the best one yet.
