Not only does this film perpetuate the inaccurate stereotype that Muslim parents are abusive, it also paints this unbelievably detached depiction of the culture. It's set in the 70s and is so clearly made for television so white families can watch it, feel they're being culturally accepting and pet themselves on the back because hey, they're not as bad as the people calling the characters slurs!

It is no secret to those I know that this is literally my favourite film of all time. Not a day goes by that it doesn't cross my mind, the beauty of this film, its perfection.
