All good films share substance with fairy tales and ancient myths, and all good art is ultimately, in one way or another, preoccupied with death. On the face of it, Dogman is a film about a father (and a failing husband) who gets involved with a criminal to make the sum of money needed for a trip he promised his daughter, but the unfolding of the plot plays on more mythical and primordial themes.
