Trashy and not in the enjoyable way. Mostly generic and really really really boring. The finale is a tedious to watch amalgamation of what might as well be Stock footage of explosions and people shooting each other for half an hour, in the dark, that drags on forever - Utterly exhausting. Why would one attempt to execute such an absurd premise in a straight faced and gritty 2000 action-slog manner, instead of going a celebratory and goofy route that might have been actually... Fun? Rourke is surprisingly great in the few scenes he's in and adds half a star.
After "Bottoms", "Lady Bird", "Book Smart" and "My old Ass" i am now slowly questioning whether female-lead-queer-centered-coming-of-age is some specific novel guilty pleasure subgenre of mine. After a strong setup, I must admit, i was unsure if this would play out a tad too tame and basic - especially compared to the others mentioned - , yet the fantastic leads managed to tie everything up and go out high, on what might derogatorily be called simplistic sentimental notes and kindergarden…
I really wondered how bad this could be, as the first Wonder Woman was quite mediocre with some bloated and clunky jank, but also some actual highlights in between. This one starts similarly, but it nosedives so hard in quality, once the setup is over and the actual plot starts. I wanted to tear out my screen and throw it at the writers during the monumentally pretentious, florid, cluttered final act. Overall it felt like nothing enjoyable happened after the…
Looks gorgeous, but the tropey, witless and often dumber than a sack-of-hammers writing was infuriating and bludgeoned every interest i had in characters and world with a sledgehammer. Feels a whole lot like someone developed fantastic and grounded Sci-Fi concept art - Then someone else made an AI make a movie, by generating Scenes based on the Concept Art and senselessly stiched those together. Wanted to love it, when i started out, but genuinely had to force myself to not turn it off by the one hour mark.
