This all just felt so… directionless. The synopsis and cast have promise but far too much screen time is awarded to less interesting plots and characters which makes for incredibly dull viewing at times.
I understand it was doing more than most in terms of conversions regarding race relations in its time but it still falls incredibly short; no doubt a lot of this is due to pushback from studios and execs.

This has been on my watchlist for ages and I’m kinda disappointed. The soundtrack was good but I just wasn’t buying the chemistry between nia and larenz. Like at all. Darius it’s a corny, creepy, LAME, boundary pushing loser who can’t regulate his emotions like a grown man. Beautiful cast though!
Also not me wondering what looked slightly off with Sterling K Brown the entire film.
