True Grit 2010
I genuinely did not expect to love it as much as I did going in, but man it really subverted my expectations. I was really emotionally invested in the story. I wanted her to get revenge so bad, and Jeff Bridges was absolutely my favourite part. It’s such a raw and awe inspiring look at the Wild West, it’s so precise down to the small details. Facing the threat of snakes, people the weather, and other gunslingers. It is such a masterclass meant to show off just how good my two Minnesota boys are. And man do they deliver. Top three Coen bros film easy.

What I love about it, is even though it’s camp filled eighties goodness, it’s got a lot of intelligence and urgency to it. The film was made with a goal in mind and it was made to convey a message. And it does it really well. You really buy into the world, and even though it has a short runtime the movie is a slow burn; it takes its time it urges you in and reveals everything really slowly.
