The rawest of the good stuff. You see images shared from this all over for good reason, but the storytelling is what strikes me most. The adolescent haunts, the minor past glories and humiliations, the past trying to creep up on the present and needing to be swatted away. And when he realises it’s all done with he’s light as a feather. Beautiful and hilarious.

Not only does film projection need to stay, it ought to come roaring back to the norm because cinema is so much poorer without it. The image in this presentation felt especially immediate and vivid. Colours popped, highlights were finally bright without the clipping and shadows could actually be black. This is an old, stuffy man rant but goddamn we can’t throw away such a beautiful thing. 70mm…

The Swimmer 1968
A new favourite - the ultimate bad dad movie. Suburban surrealism, macho deconstruction, Burt Lancaster in his swim trunks the whole time! Perry (or Pollack) masterfully peel away the layers of a man until it's all laid bare.
